A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications team, Fad Osman, has claimed that the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is determined to remove the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa.

Speaking on JoyPrime’s Prime Morning Show on Tuesday, November 25, Mr Osman said, “Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the NDC, early this year made the claim on a TV station in Accra that they will do everything to ensure that she leaves office. So this is a determination being made by the government.”

“From where I sit, I don’t see the current EC chair surviving this; she will go,” he added.

Mr Osman referred to a recent petition from an EC staff member urging President John Mahama to dismiss the Chairperson. Joseph Blankson Adumadzie petitioned the President under Article 146 of the Constitution, requesting the removal of Jean Mensa and her two deputies over alleged misconduct.

However, Mr Osman argued that this reflects a process previously used by the NDC government to remove the former Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, warning against the misuse of such procedures.

“Eleven months in office, we have seen them going through all means to remove our Chief Justice; they are now planning to remove the EC. I am not surprised that going forward, there will be other institutions they will target,” he said.
