NDC condemned galamsey in public, endorsed it in private – John Boadu alleges

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has accused the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being politically dishonest in their stance on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

Speaking on Adom TV’s morning show, Badwam, Mr. Boadu alleged that the NDC publicly condemned illegal mining prior to the 2024 elections, while privately assuring illegal miners of their support.

“Even two weeks to the election, they were pushing for a state of emergency over galamsey, but behind closed doors, they were promising the miners they could continue if the NDC won power,” he claimed.

He further argued that the current government’s approach to illegal mining, such as the establishment of GoldBod, shows the NDC’s complicity.

“The NDC should just concede that they were dishonest and politically motivated in their discussion on illegal mining. Only then can we find real solutions and create alternative jobs for those affected,” he added.
