NDC committed to peace ahead of Akwatia by-election – Opare Addo

The National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to peace and adherence to the rule of law ahead of the Akwatia by-election.

He stressed that the NDC remains a law-abiding political organisation and will neither condone nor engage in activities that could threaten the nation’s stability.

Opare Addo noted that all party supporters involved in the campaign have been cautioned to desist from any actions that could spark electoral disturbances.

Addressing the media after a leadership meeting with the clergy at the Akwatia GCD Walker Club on Monday, August 25, he encouraged party faithful to remain calm while supporting the NDC’s parliamentary candidate, Bernard Bediako Baidoo.

He also appealed to the Ghana Police Service to remain vigilant and deal decisively with anyone or group that attempts to cause chaos during the election.

“NDC is a law-abiding party; we will not indulge in any acts that will destabilise this country. We’re the midwives of Ghana’s democracy; we hold it very dear. Whatever we have to do to safeguard democracy, we will do.

“We have told our supporters to refrain from anything that will lead to violence. We have told our brothers on the other side [New Patriotic Party] that we will not countenance any violence from anybody,” he said.
