The National Communications Authority (NCA) has ordered the suspension of three radio stations owned by Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited for violating broadcasting regulations.
In a statement issued on August 12, 2025, the NCA disclosed that the affected stations, operating on 95.9 MHz in Accra, 101.3 MHz in Kumasi, and 101.3 MHz in Takoradi, were shut down for operating without a valid Certificate of Compliance. This action breaches Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991).
The suspensions follow the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to rectify their infractions.
While some stations took corrective steps, Wontumi Multimedia’s outlets allegedly failed to address critical breaches, including the unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and unapproved transmitter locations.
The NCA affirmed it will continue to monitor the broadcasting sector to ensure full compliance and protect the integrity of Ghana’s airwaves.
In addition, six other media stations—Domplus Multimedia in Ho, Dreams Ghana Media Limited in New Aberim, Jam Multimedia in Kintampo, Jewel Group Limited in Duayaw Nkwanta, Kpandai Star Community Radio in Kpandai, and Unique Gateway Communication Limited in Nkawkaw—also failed to comply with the regulatory amnesty by taking no action to remedy violations of FM broadcasting laws.
