National Security in the Ashanti Region has taken over the Akom Axel Load Station in the Afigya Kwabre North District due to alleged fund misappropriation and corruption scandals.
According to Alhaji Abubakar Nje, Deputy Regional Security Coordinator, they received intelligence that some individuals were working at the station to enrich themselves without recording government revenue.
He cited instances where trucks were not being weighed, and the money pocketed by individuals.
Speaking to Adom News, Alhaji Nje stated, “We have taken over the Axel Load Station in Akom till further notice to ensure sanity and protect government benefits.”
He mentioned that on June 4, nine cars were arrested, and during his supervision on June 9, only one car was recorded.
Kwame Yallo, NDC Organizer for Afigya Kwabre North, lamented that some party members were enriching themselves at the load station by not allowing trucks to be weighed, just six months into their party’s power.
He alleged that when he complained, he was offered a bribe of “one car per week” to keep quiet.
Kwame Yallo called on the government and highway authorities to intervene, stating that the government was losing significant revenue while a few individuals enriched themselves.
He added that the big trucks were destroying roads while a few people pocketed the weighing fees.
