National Security operatives in the Northern Region have arrested 45 foreign nationals in Tamale during a coordinated operation aimed at curbing cross-border crime and other illegal activities.
The intelligence-led exercise, conducted across several communities within the Tamale metropolis, led to the arrest of 12 Ivorians, 31 Burkinabé and two Liberians.
Preliminary investigations indicate that some of the suspects were allegedly lured into Ghana with promises of onward travel to Europe, while others are believed to have been recruited into the QNET network.
Security agencies say the operation has uncovered indications of a wider syndicate involved in human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment across national borders.
Confirming the arrests, the Northern Regional Security Liaison Officer of National Security, RSM Adam Mohammed, said profiling of the suspects revealed that many had fallen victim to organised criminal networks operating across the sub-region.
He added that intelligence suggests more individuals may still be trapped within the system, with efforts underway to identify and rescue them.
According to RSM Mohammed, the 45 suspects were handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service after profiling and documentation for further action in accordance with the law.
He urged the public to remain calm and assured residents that National Security, working with other state agencies, remains committed to maintaining peace, security and stability in the Northern Region.
