Dr. Betty Krosbi Mensah, the National Coordinator of the National Recreation and Wellness Programme, has outlined plans to expand the initiative across Ghana through strategic collaborations.
In an interview with Sporty FM, Dr. Mensah said her team is actively engaging organizations from both the public and private sectors to make wellness programs more accessible to Ghanaians.
The programme has initially prioritized government institutions, particularly security agencies, positioning them as key partners. “We have started extensive stakeholder engagement with various security services. Our goal is to bring together active personnel, their families, and retired officers through structured sporting activities that promote health and vitality,” she explained.
She also revealed that the Ministry of Health is supporting the initiative by offering free health screenings, reinforcing the programme’s focus on preventive care.
Private sector participation is another major component. While corporate organizations occasionally host recreational events, the Programme aims to ensure that all activities meet professional standards. “We are collaborating with the National Sports Authority, the regulators of all federations, to provide expert guidance and proper equipment at wellness events. This ensures participants benefit fully while minimizing the risk of injury,” Dr. Mensah said.
The Programme seeks to go beyond one-off events, embedding regular wellness and recreational activities in workplaces and communities nationwide. “Our vision is to coordinate monthly national recreational programs and guide organizations in hosting wellness initiatives that genuinely improve health and productivity,” she added.
