Narawa Mining Company has refuted claims linking Alfred Mahama, brother of President John Mahama, to its operations, insisting he is not involved in any capacity.
Baffour Adjei Acquah, the company’s Sustainable and Public Affairs Officer, clarified that Narawa Mining operates legally and responsibly, contrary to recent media reports suggesting illegal activities and political interference.
Speaking to journalists during a tour of the company’s Site C concession, Mr. Acquah emphasized that Narawa Mining strictly adheres to industry best practices, including land reclamation.
He noted that portions of mined land had already been reclaimed, demonstrating the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
“We are not involved in illegal mining, and Alfred Mahama is not associated with Narawa Mining in any way,” he stated. “We acquired our concession through proper legal channels and do not rely on political connections to run our operations.”
He also encouraged other players in the mining sector to adopt sustainable practices to help reshape the industry’s image, which has suffered due to illegal mining and environmental degradation.
Mr. Acquah warned that continued failure to reclaim mined lands and adhere to regulations could undermine the sector, which is Ghana’s second-largest foreign exchange earner.
Narawa Mining reiterated its dedication to responsible mining and urged the public to disregard unfounded allegations.
