The Adikro of Nanapa in the Atiwa East District of the Eastern Region, Baffour Aquaye, has appealed to the government and other stakeholders to address the lack of basic social amenities in the farming community.
He said the absence of good roads, potable water, adequate classroom infrastructure and other essential facilities continues to affect the livelihoods of residents and hinder the community’s development.
Baffour Aquaye made the appeal during the sod-cutting ceremony for the construction of a five-bedroom teachers’ bungalow, being financed by philanthropist Thomas Larbi.
Speaking to Adom News, the chief described the state of the community as worrying, noting that poor road networks make it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to market, resulting in financial losses.
He also expressed concern about the poor condition of educational facilities, saying many pupils are forced to study in dilapidated classrooms with inadequate furniture.
The chief further lamented the lack of access to potable water and healthcare services, stressing that the absence of these basic amenities continues to make life difficult for residents.
He appealed to the government to prioritise the development needs of Nanapa by investing in critical infrastructure to improve the welfare of the people.
Meanwhile, philanthropist Thomas Larbi, who is funding the construction of the teachers’ bungalow, said improving accommodation for teachers is key to attracting and retaining qualified personnel in the community.
He acknowledged the infrastructural challenges facing Nanapa and urged government, corporate organisations and other development partners to support efforts to improve living conditions in the area.
Mr. Larbi said addressing the community’s development challenges would enhance education, improve livelihoods and contribute to the overall socio-economic growth of Nanapa.
