A heated exchange erupted on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem between former Greater Accra Regional Minister Daniel Titus Glover and Presidential Staffer Nana Yaa Jantuah during a debate on the economic performance of the John Dramani Mahama-led administration.

The tension flared after Mr. Glover, also a former Member of Parliament for Tema East, raised concerns about challenges in the cocoa sector and rising prices of goods and services.

He accused the government of failing cocoa farmers despite earlier promises to make the sector more lucrative.

“President Mahama encouraged people to acquire land and venture into cocoa farming because they were going to be paid good prices. But look at the situation we find ourselves in now. Go to the market and check the prices of goods — electricity tariffs, BECE and WASSCE registration fees.

“They are burdening Ghanaians. They made songs that John Mahama is the hope, but that is not what we are seeing,” he stated.

In response, Nana Yaa Jantuah dismissed his claims and argued that the current administration is performing better than the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) government.

“What the NPP does best is throw figures around. Titus Glover came here to say a ball of kenkey was selling for 10 cedis, but when I checked, it was not true.

“What better measures did they put in place for cocoa farmers? During their time, the unprecedented happened — cocoa farmers were selling their lands for galamsey. Seedlings and fertilisers meant for farmers were instead sold to them,” she countered.

The exchange left the studio momentarily tense as both figures defended their respective positions on the state of the economy.
