The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has issued a stern 7-day ultimatum to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) following the assault of a JoyNews journalist and an eyewitness by military personnel at Spintex.
According to the Association, the GAF must publish the names, ranks, and photos of the soldiers involved in the incident or risk the GJA doing so independently.
The incident occurred during a demolition exercise at businessman McDan’s warehouse along the Spintex Road, where JoyNews’ Carlos Carlony and an eyewitness were allegedly attacked by soldiers while carrying out their duties.
At a press conference on Thursday, GJA President Albert Dwumfuor condemned the assault, describing it as a deliberate attempt to suppress information and intimidate the media.
“These actions are unjustifiable and undermine press freedom,” he said. “We are giving the Ghana Armed Forces seven days to publish the identities of the officers involved. If they fail, we will not hesitate to release their names, ranks, and photos on the front pages of major newspapers.”
The development has intensified calls for accountability and renewed debate about the safety of journalists in Ghana.
