The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has deployed personnel from its headquarters to the North East Region ahead of the anticipated spillage from the Bagré and Kompienga Dams.

The deployment forms part of proactive measures to strengthen preparedness and emergency response in communities that may be affected by the spillage.

The personnel are expected to support monitoring activities and help coordinate response efforts to protect vulnerable communities and minimise the potential impact of the rising water levels.

NADMO says the move is intended to ensure that the necessary measures are in place ahead of any possible emergency.

NADMO warned that the spillage is expected to raise water levels in the White Volta River and its tributaries, increasing the risk of flooding, particularly in communities along riverbanks and other low-lying areas.

The organisation urged residents in vulnerable communities to take immediate precautionary measures to protect lives and property.

It advised households in flood-prone areas to relocate to safer grounds before floodwaters rise, while farmers were encouraged to harvest mature crops early where necessary to reduce potential losses.

NADMO also cautioned farmers, fishermen, herdsmen and the general public against farming, fishing, grazing livestock or undertaking other activities within river channels and floodplains throughout the spillage period.

The organisation said its personnel would support monitoring and emergency preparedness efforts as authorities work to minimise the impact of the anticipated rise in water levels.
