Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku believes the full impact of his contribution to Ghana football will only be appreciated after he leaves office.
Okraku made the remarks in response to criticism that has accompanied his tenure, insisting that the true measure of his administration will be its long-term contribution to the growth of the game.
Speaking to Accra-based 3Sports, the GFA boss acknowledged that scrutiny comes with the role but said he remains committed to building a lasting legacy for Ghana football.
“My job is also to play my part. I will say that when I am gone, just like Kwame Nkrumah, people will appreciate,” Okraku said.
“And people will not only appreciate but people will remember the good things that we did for Ghana football.”
The GFA president argued that criticism is a common experience for football administrators, citing the tenure of former GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi as an example.
According to Okraku, Nyantakyi also faced significant criticism despite overseeing some of Ghana’s most successful periods in international football.
“President Kwesi Nyantakyi, same. At the end, he took Ghana to the World Cup; he took Ghana to the finals of the AFCON; he did his part and my job is also to play my part,” he added.
Okraku stressed that his focus remains on delivering positive change rather than responding to critics, expressing confidence that history will provide a fair assessment of his administration.
He said he hopes his tenure will ultimately be remembered for its contribution to the development and progress of Ghana football.
