President John Dramani Mahama has dismissed speculation about seeking a third term in office, saying his priority is to fulfil the mandate Ghanaians have entrusted to him and deliver on the promises he made during the election campaign.

Speaking during his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Volta Region on Friday, July 17, the President said his administration remains focused on delivering results within the constitutional term given to him by the electorate.

“The people of Ghana gave me a mandate for one term, and I am working hard to meet the promises I made to them,” he said.

Mr. Mahama disclosed that he consistently reminds his ministers that their time in office is limited and must be used effectively to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

“I always tell my ministers, let’s number our days so that we can work harder to meet the promises we made to the Ghanaian people,” he stated.

The President’s remarks come amid renewed public debate over the possibility of him seeking a third presidential term.

Addressing the constitutional discussions, Mr. Mahama said he believes the relevant constitutional provisions are clear but acknowledged that any citizen has the right to seek an interpretation from the Supreme Court.

“I’ve read it over several times. It’s exactly what it says. But if they want to ask the Supreme Court, that is their business,” he said.

President Mahama reiterated that he was elected to serve one additional term and remains committed to justifying the confidence Ghanaians have placed in him.

“I know that the people of Ghana gave me one additional term, and I’m going to work to meet the trust that they put in me,” he added.
