Former Deputy Attorney-General Joseph Kpemka has criticized the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) for what he describes as “media prosecution” in the ongoing case involving former National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Chief Executive, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, and nine others.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show on October 20, Mr. Kpemka expressed concern over the OSP’s repeated amendments to the charge sheet.
He described the process as inconsistent and unfair to the accused.
“They told us they wanted to revise the charge and brought a new charge sheet in August. Then, before the hearing, they nullified it and introduced another one. If you are not ready to go to court, you don’t go. The individual’s liberty is at stake,” he stated.
He added that the OSP’s conduct “appears to be aimed at showing the public that they are working.”
He urged the office to allow the courts to handle the matter without public theatrics.
“Media prosecution must stop. Justice must be served, not sensationalized,” he stressed.
The remarks come after the OSP amended its charges against Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and nine others, increasing the counts from 25 to 54 following the discovery of fresh evidence.
The accused face allegations of extortion, abuse of public office, and money laundering involving over GH¢291 million and US$332,000.
Court proceedings have been adjourned to November 13, 2025, when the accused are expected to plead to the new charges.
