Former CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has met his GH₵2 million bail condition, with two sureties in the controversial extortion and money laundering case.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) confirmed the development in a social media post, following his appearance before the Accra High Court with six others on Wednesday, July 23, 2025.
However, the OSP indicated that the other six accused were unable to fulfill their conditions and were detained.
The six other accused persons are Jacob Kwamina Amuah, Wendy Newman, Albert Ankrah, Isaac Mensah, Bright Bernako-Mensah, and Kwaku Aboagye Acquah.

The six individuals are facing trial over a total of 25 charges, including extortion by a public officer, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and money laundering.
The charges stem from an alleged large-scale extortion and money laundering scheme involving more than GH₵280 million. Collectively, they face 25 counts, including extortion by a public officer, conspiracy to commit money laundering, and money laundering.
Dr. Abdul-Hamid was required to post GH¢2 million bail with two sureties, each earning a net monthly salary of at least GH¢5,000, and to report to the OSP biweekly.
The case has been adjourned to 26 August 2025 for substantive hearings.
