Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when nominations open.

In a statement to party members, Dr. Abdul-Hamid said his decision comes after persistent calls from grassroots supporters urging him to bring his experience and strategic insight to the party’s national leadership.

“I hereby formally announce my decision to vie for the position of National Vice Chairman when nominations open,” he stated.

He emphasized that his ambition is not motivated by personal gain but by a commitment to serve and contribute to the rebuilding of the party.

“This is not an ambition born of personal gain, but a desire to give back to the party what it has invested in me,” he noted.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid highlighted his long-standing involvement with the party, dating back to its formative years. He recalled participating in the transition from the Danquah-Busia Club to the NPP in 1992 and his role as a founding member of the University of Cape Coast branch.

Over the years, he has held several key positions within the party, including contesting for National Organizer in 2001 and General Secretary in 2005. He also served as spokesperson for former President Nana Akufo-Addo for a decade and later worked as Deputy National Campaign Manager during the 2020 elections.

Reflecting on his political journey, he acknowledged both victories and setbacks.

“I have been forged in the fire of battle. I have won some and lost some. I have the scars to show,” he said.

Dr. Abdul-Hamid further underscored his intellectual capacity and readiness to support party leadership, expressing confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully at the highest level.

“I believe I have enough intellectual firepower to give covering fire to whoever will be elected as chairman,” he added.

He called for unity within the party, urging members to come together to reorganize and reposition the NPP for future electoral success.

“Together, we shall re-strategize, rebuild and re-organize and return this party to its rightful place in leadership,” he said, ending with the party’s rallying call, “Victoria Ascert!”
