The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has presented assorted food items to the Ghana Prisons Service to support inmates across the country during the Ramadan period.

The donation, made with support from the Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, included bags of sugar, gallons of cooking oil, cartons of tomato paste, bags of rice, milk and other essential food supplies.

The items are expected to be distributed to major prison facilities nationwide, particularly to support Muslim inmates observing the holy month of Ramadan.

Speaking at the presentation, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak emphasised the importance of extending compassion to persons in custody, especially during a sacred period marked by reflection, sacrifice and spiritual renewal.

He noted that the gesture demonstrates solidarity with inmates, many of whom are undergoing rehabilitation and preparing for reintegration into society.

The Minister commended Ibrahim Mahama for his continued support to the Ghana Prisons Service, stating that such contributions play a vital role in improving inmate welfare and strengthening the Service’s operations.

He reaffirmed government’s commitment to improving living conditions within prisons and ensuring that the dignity and welfare of inmates are protected.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Service, the Deputy Director-General of Prisons in charge of Operations, Francis Omane Addo, expressed appreciation to the Minister for his continued advocacy and support. He also thanked Ibrahim Mahama for his sustained assistance to the Service.

Dr Omane Addo assured that the donated items would be distributed appropriately across designated prison facilities to benefit inmates during the Ramadan period.
