MTN Ghana powers digital inclusion in Volta with 1.3m subscribers and bold investments

MTN Ghana has firmly entrenched itself as the leading telecommunications provider in the Volta Region, connecting over 1.3 million people—a staggering majority of the region’s telephony-accessible population—with life-changing digital, financial, and voice services.

At the 2025 MTN Media and Stakeholder Forum held in Ho, MTN officials revealed that nearly one million residents now use Mobile Money (MoMo), with data penetration at 66 percent, demonstrating a significant leap in digital inclusion and financial empowerment across the region.

Mr. Peter Bimpeh, Senior Manager for Regional Sales (South East), described the figures as “clear evidence that the MTN brand is not only trusted but has become an integral part of everyday life for people in the Volta Region.”

Backed by a growing agent and merchant network—12,000 MoMo agents and 9,000 merchants—MTN Ghana continues to play a pivotal role in promoting digital finance, economic activity, and seamless communication, especially in hard-to-reach communities.

More than a telecom provider, MTN is investing in Ghana’s future. Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications, underscored the company’s mission to “connect, empower, and transform” lives. She highlighted that MTN’s Foundation has executed over 170 social impact projects nationwide, benefiting more than five million Ghanaians in education, health, and economic empowerment.

“We don’t just make profit—we reinvest in people,” she said. “From scholarships to blood donation drives, from digital skills training to SME support for youth and women, MTN is committed to being a development partner, not just a service provider.”

Looking ahead, MTN is injecting $250 million into network expansion and enhancement in 2025 alone. But even as the network grows, challenges like fibre cable theft and infrastructure destruction by private developers threaten service reliability—an issue the company is urging communities to help combat.

Meanwhile, to bring services even closer to customers, MTN is scaling up its physical presence in Volta and beyond, with 36 shops in the Eastern Region and 18 in Volta, and dozens more expected in places like Anloga and Keta by year-end.

From digital access to social investment, MTN Ghana’s footprint in the Volta Region reflects a broader vision: to bridge the digital divide, uplift communities, and accelerate Ghana’s development journey—one connection at a time.
