The Member of Parliament for Bekwai constituency, Joseph Osei Owusu has entreated the Church of Pentecost to focus on building basic schools instead of building more churches.

According to him, education is the fundamental factor of development and it is on the back of that the President Nana Akufo-Addo introduced free SHS into the country.

He said the introduction of the free SHS will help the Ghanaian child acquire knowledge and also offer them the opportunity to be educated in the tertiary level.

The implementation of the free SHS policy has received numerous backlashes from stakeholders stating that it is poorly thought and must be aborted before birth.

The double-track system which would see SHS students, starting from the 2018/2019 academic year, the government has explained was to accommodate the numbers that are eligible to access SHS following the implementation of the Free SHS policy.

But some civil society organizations and educationists have questioned the system expressing fears that it could jeopardize the quality of the country’s SHS education system.

But, the 1st Deputy Speaker of Parliament said educating the Ghanaian child at the secondary level will at least help them shape their lives in the future.

Joseph Osei Owusu who is also the 1st Deputy Speaker of parliament deems that the contribution of the Church of Pentecost building basic schools in the country will help reduce pressure from government and create room for employment as well.

He made the statement at the Pentecost International Worship Centre (PIWC, Atomic) during the induction of the chairman.

He said he acknowledged the contribution of the Church of Pentecost in promoting education in tertiary institutions but he will entreat the church to now focus on basic schools so the children in the country can benefit.

Meanwhile, the new Chairman of the Church of Pentecost Apostle Eric Kwabena Nyamekye says the church accepts suggestions in good faith.

  1. The church was not set up by the government of any nation, neither does it run the agenda of government. It’s not the duty of the church to build schools. They may build schools, but that’s not their core business.
Jesus said I will build my church…. he didn’t ask us to build schools. Jesus asked us to preach the gospel and teach all men whatsoever he told us.
If you can’t build schools with the taxpayers money, sorry, find other ways of communicating it.
You don’t what the church is, else you won’t make such a suggestion.

  2. The suggestion from the mp wasn’t bad tho , But is it the responsibility of the church to build basic schools or the government ??

The Church of Pentecost is contributing a lot to the development of this nation .I suggest the government should also do his part very well

  3. This is a very good idea. I have been discussing this lately with some church members. The church can only make significant improvements in the hinterland when they establish more basic schools to catch the souls young.
God bless you Hon Joe Wise.
