The Member of Parliament for Nkwanta South in the Oti Region, Geoffrey Kini, has visited several deplorable roads in the constituency and assured residents of urgent repairs to ease the burden on farmers and commuters.
The roads visited include the Agou–Kabiti Road, Kpanji Akura, Adam Akura, Chai-Akura and other feeder roads, which have remained in poor condition and pose major challenges to farming communities.
He was accompanied by the Nkwanta South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Joseph Antwi Awal; the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mahama Musah; the Municipal Planning Engineer; and the Municipal District Road Improvement Project (DRIP) Coordinator.
Speaking to Adom News during the visit, Mr. Kini said improving road access to farming communities remains a top priority, adding that arrangements are underway to deploy DRIP equipment to the affected areas to open them up for social and economic activities.
According to him, improved road networks will not only enhance agricultural productivity but also improve access to healthcare and other essential social services.
The MP noted that quality road infrastructure is key to economic growth and development and urged residents to remain calm, assuring them that their concerns will be addressed under the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government.
He further called on residents to continue supporting him and President John Dramani Mahama, stressing that the government will soon roll out economic measures aimed at easing their challenges and improving living conditions.
However, some community members, in separate interviews, expressed concern over the continued poor state of the roads, saying it is negatively affecting their livelihoods.
They explained that pregnant women and sick persons often struggle to access the nearest health facilities, while teachers are reluctant to accept postings to the communities, affecting their children’s education. The residents therefore appealed to the MP to act swiftly to address the situation.
