Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has clapped back at social media users who made bodyshaming remarks following her recent performance at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia.
A short clip from her stage appearance went viral, sparking a flurry of unsolicited comments about her body, particularly her backside.
One user boldly commented, “Real one knows she just has big laps not actual ass.”
Not one to stay silent, Tems fired back on Twitter, condemning the obsession with her physical features.
She expressed frustration over the constant scrutiny and pressure to either “prove or disprove” her body type.
She further challenged the double standards, asking why she’s expected to show her body to satisfy strangers online.
Tems emphasized that her body is not a subject for public debate and affirmed that she will gain or lose weight as she chooses, on her own terms.
‘Okay 7 years in. It’s time to pack it up. I never thought I’d need to say it but you are all weird. “It’s small, it’s flat, it’s fat.” Dog ITS MINE. “Show us your bumbum” lol so me too I will turn and say ‘see’. Nah show ME yours first?? See how that feels? It’s just a body I will add and lose weight. I never once hid my body, I just didn’t feel the need to prove or disprove anyone. The more you don’t like my body the better for me actually. But it’s enough now. Move on from my bum”
The singer’s response has since received wide praise from fans who lauded her confidence and slammed the culture of bodyshaming in the entertainment space.
