More time needed for Z-9 helicopter crash probe – Kwakye Ofosu

-

Minister in Charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has confirmed that investigations into the Z-9 military helicopter crash are still ongoing, despite the probe committee having missed its initial 30-day deadline.

The government says it is allowing investigators additional time to complete a thorough examination of the crash that claimed the lives of eight people. Officials emphasise the importance of a careful and comprehensive probe to determine the exact cause before releasing any findings to the public.

Speaking to JoyNews, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu stated that a formal request regarding the report has not yet reached his office but assured that the government remains committed to transparency once the investigation is concluded.

“I have not seen the request, so when we see it, we’ll be able to know exactly what is being asked and then respond appropriately,” he said.

He added, “It’s important that in such matters, we give adequate time for proper, thorough investigations to be carried out so that we know exactly what happened. That process is ongoing, and as and when there’s information, the public will be made aware.”

The committee, chaired by the National Security Coordinator, was tasked with determining the cause of the crash and submitting a detailed report to the government.

However, more than a month after the deadline elapsed, there has been no official communication on the status of the probe, raising concern from the opposition in Parliament.

The First Deputy Minority Whip, Habib Iddrisu, has filed a Right to Information (RTI) request, urging the government to make the committee’s findings public.
