More details emerge on fatal accident near Konongo

Twelve people have been confirmed dead, while 32 others have sustained injuries following a fatal road crash at Oduamse near Konongo on the Kumasi-Accra Highway.

The accident, which occurred on Thursday morning, involved a Yutong bus travelling from the Volta Region to Yeji and a cargo truck transporting tomatoes from Techiman to Accra.

The deceased include eight males, three females and a five-year-old boy.

According to the Konongo Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, ACP Frank Asare Awuah, 13 of the injured victims were taken to Yawkwei Steward Hospital, while 32 others were sent to the Konongo Government Hospital for medical treatment.

Speaking in an interview with Adom News, ACP Asare Awuah said investigations had commenced to determine the exact cause of the crash.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service, the police and health officials, were deployed to the scene to rescue victims, provide assistance and manage the situation.

Authorities are expected to provide further updates as investigations into the accident continue.
