The Central Regional Police Command has detained Sergeant Kwaku Owusu Ansah, the Police Officer captured in a viral video allegedly taking money from a civilian involved in a criminal case.

A statement signed by the Central Regional Police Command’s PRO, DSP Irene Serwaa Oppong, has described the action of the officer, G/Sgt Augustine Owusu Ansah of the Assin Fosu Division as amounting to corruption.

The statement also provided further details on the video by explaining that “G/Sgt. Owusu Ansah is captured negotiating payment and receiving money at a drinking spot from a suspect in a cyber-crime and narcotics case,” the statement explained.

The officer, according to the statement, has been referred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to investigate and report to the Command for the necessary action.

“The Police Officer [in question] has been detained to assist in the investigations,” the statement added.

The police have also urged the public to help in every possible way to assist with the investigations.

“The command is also entreating persons with credible information on the matter to assist the Police,” the statement read in part. I
