Ghana midfielder Mohammed Kudus endured a difficult afternoon after being forced off injured in the first half of Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 Premier League draw with Sunderland.
The 25-year-old pulled up just after the quarter-hour mark, appearing to clutch the upper part of his left leg, and was replaced by Randal Kolo Muani.
Kudus was able to walk off the pitch, but early indications point to a possible muscular issue, with the adductor believed to be affected. Further medical checks will determine the severity of the setback.
Tottenham were already stretched for options on the right flank following Brennan Johnson’s recent move to Crystal Palace, prompting head coach Thomas Frank to deploy the Paris Saint-Germain loanee out of his natural position.
Despite the early disruption, Spurs took the lead in the 30th minute through Ben Davies. However, Sunderland hit back late on, with Brian Brobbey netting the equaliser in the 80th minute to earn the visitors a share of the spoils.
Kudus has been a consistent presence for Tottenham this season, starting all but one league match. He has registered two goals and six assists in the Premier League and remains an integral part of Frank’s setup, even if his goal return has been modest.
Spurs will be hoping the injury proves minor, as a lengthy absence would be a significant blow.
Kudus joined the club from West Ham United in the summer for £55 million on a six-year contract and has contributed seven goals and assists in 18 league appearances so far.
