Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that Ghana international Mohammed Kudus could undergo surgery after suffering a setback in his recovery from injury.
The forward has been sidelined since January 4, when he sustained a quad injury during a Premier League clash against Sunderland.
Although he had recently returned to team training and was expected to rejoin the squad during the March international break, his comeback has now been delayed.
In an official statement released on Thursday, Spurs revealed that Kudus will require further specialist assessment, with surgery now a possible option.
“We can confirm that Mohammed Kudus has suffered a setback in his return from injury,” the club said.
“The Ghana international forward suffered a significant quad injury during our Premier League fixture against Sunderland in January.
“He had returned to team training during the past week; however, he will now require further specialist review and, potentially, surgery.”
Kudus, who joined Tottenham in a £55 million move in July, has made 26 appearances for the club this season, scoring two goals and providing five assists. He had been a regular starter prior to his injury, featuring in nine consecutive matches.
The development casts serious doubt over his availability for the final stretch of the season and could also impact his involvement with the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana are scheduled to play international friendlies against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team in May and June as part of preparations for the tournament.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L, where they will face Panama national football team, England national football team and Croatia national football team. Ghana’s campaign is scheduled to begin on June 17 against Panama, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
