Ghana international Mohammed Kudus faces a race against time to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering a fresh injury setback.

The 25-year-old has been sidelined since January with quad and hamstring problems, which also ruled him out of Ghana’s recent friendly matches against Austria and Germany.

There had been optimism that Kudus would return this month to support Tottenham Hotspur in their fight to avoid relegation. However, that hope has now faded following reports of a new complication.

While details of the latest injury remain unclear, sources indicate the situation could require surgery—an outcome that would not only end his Premier League campaign but also place his World Cup participation in serious doubt.

New Spurs manager Roberto De Zerbi is expected to be concerned by the development, given Kudus’ importance to his tactical plans.

Before his injury, Kudus had registered nine goal contributions in 24 appearances across domestic and European competitions.

The former Ajax forward joined Spurs from West Ham United last summer in a £55 million move and has scored twice while providing five assists this season.

Kudus is now set to miss Ghana’s upcoming pre-World Cup friendlies against Mexico and Wales in May and June.

The Ghana national football team are preparing for their fifth World Cup appearance, having been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England, and Croatia.

Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.
