The Mortuary and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has temporarily shut down four mortuaries in the Central Region for failing to meet required safety and environmental standards.
The affected facilities are Gye Nyame Mortuary, Vision One Mortuary, Cape Coast Metro Hospital Mortuary, and Winneba Municipal Hospital Mortuary.
Speaking to Adom News, MoFFA Registrar Francis Ennin explained that the closures are temporary and contingent on corrective measures.
“We’ve closed them down until they meet the necessary standards,” he said, citing poor hygiene, lack of personal protective equipment (PPE), and inadequate facilities, including instances of bodies being placed on the floor, as major violations.
Ennin emphasized that MoFFA’s mandate is to ensure compliance with regulations to safeguard public health and uphold the dignity of the deceased.
The agency aims to guarantee that mortuaries operate in a safe and respectful manner while protecting staff and visitors from health risks.
The move highlights MoFFA’s commitment to enforcing standards across Ghana’s mortuary sector.
