Miracles Aboagye hints at petition against Alan Kyerematen’s campaign financing

Spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has hinted at a possible petition against Movement for Change leader and 2024 presidential candidate, Alan Kyerematen, over his campaign financing.

This follows a petition filed by Solomon Owusu and his legal team, calling for investigations into Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s public claims of procuring over 300 pickup vehicles for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and raising record sums of money for political campaigns.

The petition argues that such declarations raise concerns about the source of funds, potential abuse of office, and breaches of Ghana’s political financing laws.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story on September 17, Mr Aboagye said his team is “taking inspiration” from the petition filed against Dr. Bawumia.

He insisted that the petitioner, Solomon Owusu, and his leader, Alan Kyerematen, should also be ready to explain how they financed their nationwide campaigns.

“I’m sure in about two or three days, Solomon will be on air explaining how his leader, as an ordinary minister, managed to afford moving across the country with all the V8s and fuel to campaign,” he said.

“I’m sure people are taking inspiration from him [the petitioner],” he added.

The campaign spokesperson further dismissed the petition filed at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), describing it as “just hot air.”

“Even if I want to get 300 pickups, I can mobilise. There are so many ways a politician can raise resources—it depends on your network and wealth,” Mr Aboagye stressed.

He maintained that political fundraising and resource mobilisation are normal in politics, adding that once the OSP processes the petition, Dr. Bawumia will respond accordingly.
