The Minority in Parliament is urging the Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, to expedite work on the Agenda 111 health projects, some of which are nearing completion.
Minority Members of Parliament whose constituencies are benefiting from the initiative say the Minister must act swiftly to ensure these health facilities are completed, as many areas still face critical healthcare challenges.
They noted that constituents often have to travel long distances to access medical care, resulting in worsening health conditions or, in some cases, loss of lives.
The Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira West, Rudolf Amoako-Gyampoh, highlighted the challenges his constituents face, particularly in accessing referrals due to the lack of nearby facilities.
“When the project is completed, it will not only serve my constituents but also others along the trunk road. Abandoning such a facility after so much investment amounts to causing financial loss to the state,” he emphasized. “I urge the Minister to complete the project to help reduce avoidable deaths in places like Diaso and its surrounding communities.”
The MP for Atiwa West, Lawyer Korkor Asante, also revealed that the Agenda 111 project in her constituency is 92% complete, with medical equipment worth GH₵4 million already with the supplier. She believes the remaining work can be completed in no time.
“Why should people from Abomposu travel all the way to Koforidua or Nkawkaw for healthcare and referrals when the facility here, once completed, can serve them and others along the Accra-Kumasi-Tamale corridor?” she asked.
She appealed to the Health Minister to prioritise the Atiwa West project and others across the country to ensure rural communities receive the quality healthcare they deserve.
