The Minority in Parliament has urged the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, to resign or for President John Dramani Mahama to remove him from office following the withdrawal of a controversial lithium agreement.

The call comes after concerns were raised by Minority members regarding the agreement, which they argued contained inaccuracies and would not serve the nation’s interests.

A week after the document was presented to Parliament, the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources withdrew it, explaining that the move was intended to allow for broader consultations with industry stakeholders and affected communities.

Speaking in Parliament, the Minority, through the MP for Old Tafo, Vincent Assafuah, accused the Minister of failing to exercise due diligence in preparing the agreement. He noted that the Minister initially defended the document before later retracting it, raising questions about his credibility.

The Minority further argued that presenting such a flawed document to Parliament demonstrates a failure to act in the national interest and accused the Minister of being dishonest with Ghanaians.

They concluded that the Minister can no longer be trusted to manage the country’s natural resources, justifying their call for his removal.
