Minority accuses Mahama gov’t of repackaging Akufo-Addo administration’s road projects as new

The Minority Caucus in Parliament has accused the Mahama-led administration of political dishonesty by repackaging legacy road projects under its new “Big Push Programme” in the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.

According to the group, several of the listed projects were initiated, fully designed, or partially executed under the previous government.

Notable among the rebranded roads are the Wa–Han Road, Navrongo–Tumu Road, Sunyani Outer Ring Road, and Tema–Aflao Road.

“These projects are not new,” declared Ranking Member on the Roads and Transport Committee, Kennedy Osei Nyarko. “They were either planned, tendered, or commenced under the previous government. What we are witnessing is political erasure disguised as innovation.”

The caucus warned that such actions risk eroding public trust and reflect a lack of genuine commitment to infrastructure development.

“Repackaging old ideas without crediting predecessors is not only dishonest but also unproductive,” Mr. Nyarko added. “It would serve the nation better if government embraced continuity.”

Beyond the issue of rebranding, the Minority questioned the feasibility of the budget’s project list. With Ghana still facing fiscal constraints, it remains unclear how the government intends to finance and complete such a vast portfolio.

“Where is the funding? What are the timelines? The document is silent,” he said.

The Minority is urging government to present a revised plan that acknowledges prior investments, prioritises ongoing strategic corridors, and includes detailed implementation frameworks.

“This is not the time for optics,” Mr. Nyarko stressed. “We need accountability, not illusions.”
