She answers to Patience Ohemeng, but on the set of Girls Can Talk, she’s the feisty Yaa Lopez, a name that dances between elegance and edge, just like her voice.

No, she’s not a household face on Ghanaian TV, and no, she’s not a popping influencer with numbers on Instagram and TikTok. Not yet anyway. But she might just be the voice we didn’t know we needed.

Yaa is in her late 20s, a proud Ashanti born in Accra and raised between the two cultural poles of Kumasi and the capital.

That duality is evident in her energy: quiet confidence, layered with warmth, humor, and a subtle fire. “I like to believe I’m an introvert,” she says with a laugh, “but that doesn’t take the fun out of my personality. Most people close to me say I’m a talker. Some might even say I’m a little mischievous.” She giggled with a glint in her eyes.

She didn’t grow up with a silver spoon, but best believe, she’ll find one to beat you with, if that’s what it takes to shift your perspective.

Yaa speaks with the conviction of someone who inherited something far more valuable than a fancy education in a prissy neighborhood: grounding.

“Growing up, my father always made sure I was sorted.” Her mother, a trader and a force of nature, taught her to hustle hard and pray harder. “Self-sufficiency gives you a seat at the table,” Yaa says. “It gives you the power to choose who you want to be. You don’t need to sacrifice what you believe in on the anvil of other people’s benevolence.”

It’s this sense of self that makes her the perfect referee for a show like Girls Can Talk, a space that demands both empathy and audacity. She sees the show not as a performance, but a responsibility. “Adom TV saw beyond the numbers and chose me because they believe every woman, regardless of status or spotlight, deserves to be heard. And they’re letting me be the vessel for that voice.”

She describes her hosting style as “engaging, warm, and accommodating but firm.” Her favorite topics? Love, identity, money, and culture. Her boldest public opinion? Her unapologetic pride in being Ashanti. And what does she hope young Ghanaian women are ready to say? “That they are enough.”

When asked what message she hopes viewers take from every episode, Yaa’s answer is simple, but powerful: “Say your truth, and stand by it no matter what.”

Yaa Lopez may be new to the screen, but she’s no stranger to real talk. And Girls Can Talk isn’t just her show, it’s her statement.

Girls Can Talk will start airing on Adom TV from the 12th of August. The show comes your way at 3:00 pm every Tuesday and Thursday.
