Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has attributed his team’s failure to secure victory against Asante Kotoko on Matchday 12 of the Ghana Premier League to lapses in focus and a growing injury list.
The defending champions had built a commanding 2–0 lead at the Baba Yara Stadium, only for Kotoko to mount a late comeback and snatch a 2–2 draw, leaving Tanko frustrated.
“I will say we lost concentration, and I have to say that because of injuries, it was really painful. After leading 2–0, the game ended 2–2. I mean, this is football, and we have to go and work on our mistakes,” Tanko admitted.
He explained that the team’s injury troubles forced early substitutions, limiting options in the closing stages. “Maybe we made our changes earlier, and in the last twenty minutes, we didn’t have anyone to bring on. Some of our players were tired,” he said.
“Before the game, if you told me I would take three points, I would have agreed. But given how the game went, we definitely deserved the three points. That’s football,” Tanko added.
Medeama’s goals came from Derick Fordjour and Yussif Mubarik, while Peter Amidu Acquah and captain Samba O’Neil scored for Kotoko, lifting the spirits of the home fans.
The draw leaves Medeama level on 23 points with Heart of Lions and Aduana FC at the top of the table. Kotoko sit fifth with 21 points, tied with archrivals Hearts of Oak.
