
Former President Nana Akufo‑Addo has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, which claimed the lives of eight individuals, including key government officials.
In a statement, the former president extended his heartfelt condolences to President John Mahama, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the families of all the victims. He also paid tribute to the Ghana Air Force personnel who lost their lives, commending their unwavering dedication and sacrifice in the line of duty.
“The entire nation is profoundly shocked and saddened by the tragic news,” he remarked, noting the loss of Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, former Obuasi East parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
He further offered prayers for the departed, adding, “May they find peaceful rest in the Bosom of the Almighty until the Last Day of the Resurrection, when we shall all meet again.”
The accident occurred near Adansi Akrofuom while a Ghana Armed Forces Z‑9 helicopter was traveling from Accra to Obuasi. Emergency response teams have since moved in, and investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
