Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu is on the verge of being named the new head coach of Bibiani GoldStars following the departure of Frimpong Manso.

The Miners confirmed on Monday, September 22, that they had mutually parted ways with Manso after a 2-0 home defeat to Algerian giants JS Kabylie in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary round tie at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The result has left GoldStars with a daunting task in their debut continental campaign and triggered a swift shake-up in the technical team.

Konadu, 52, has emerged as the leading candidate for the role. The experienced tactician, who guided Asante Kotoko to a Ghana Premier League title during his stint with the club, also boasts spells with Legon Cities, Nsoatreman FC, and the Black Stars B, where he steered Ghana to WAFU Cup of Nations glory in 2017.

GoldStars are expected to confirm his appointment in the coming days. Should the deal be finalized, Konadu is likely to be in the dugout for the decisive return leg in Algeria this weekend as well as the club’s upcoming Premier League fixtures.

Manso departs with his name firmly etched in GoldStars’ history, having delivered their first-ever Ghana Premier League title and a GHALCA Top 4 triumph during his tenure.
