Former Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell Konadu has endorsed the new partnership between Adesa Productions Limited (APL) and the Ghana Football Association (GFA), calling it a much-needed intervention for Ghanaian football.
The deal, launched on Thursday, brought together key figures including Sports Minister Kofi Adams and Chief of Staff Julius Debrah.
Konadu described the agreement as “a very, very good initiative” capable of reviving the domestic game.
“This has been long overdue. These are the kinds of interventions that can really support our game. Once it starts, it will help a lot of youth and go a long way in sustaining clubs,” he said.
He noted the financial burden of running football clubs in Ghana and expressed hope that the new arrangement would ease those pressures.
“It’s not easy to own and manage a Premier League team. These are the initiatives that will support club owners. And in the end, it benefits the communities because the youth in these areas will directly gain from it.”
Konadu also addressed the issue of poor salaries in the local league, expressing optimism for change.
“I believe this will help improve the average salary of the Ghanaian footballer. This is what we’ve all been advocating for. I’m happy for this initiative.”
Under the partnership, each Ghana Premier League club is expected to receive GH₵1 million ahead of the new season. Three matches will be aired live each weekend, and highlight packages of all matches will be produced to enhance visibility.
