A mason who was trapped under debris after a building collapsed at Kasoa New Market has been rescued and taken to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital for treatment.
The incident occurred on Saturday morning when some construction workers attempted to reinforce the structure by adding new pillars to support an existing floor.
The Awutu Senya East Municipal NADMO Director, Nash Nyande, told Adom News that it took the rescue team nearly three hours to free the victim from the rubble. He confirmed that the victim suffered severe leg fractures.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Awutu Senya East, Seth Banini, disclosed that preliminary investigations suggest the building owner used substandard materials, including weak iron rods, blocks, and cement.
He added that the landlord will face arrest and possible prosecution if the investigations confirm negligence.
