Ghana international Marvin Senaya is set for a spell on the sidelines after undergoing successful surgery to repair the hamstring injury he suffered during the Black Stars’ 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.

The 26-year-old right-back picked up the injury in Ghana’s Round of 32 encounter against Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium on Friday, July 3.

The setback forced him to end his participation in the tournament prematurely after featuring in all four of Ghana’s matches.

Medical examinations, including an MRI scan conducted in Kansas City, confirmed that Senaya had sustained a significant hamstring injury, requiring surgical intervention.

The operation was successfully carried out in Paris, after which the defender returned to his French club, AJ Auxerre, where he will continue his recovery and rehabilitation programme.

Senaya is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks as he works towards full fitness.

Despite the setback, there is optimism that the France-based defender will recover in time to be considered for Ghana’s squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, which are scheduled to begin later this year.

His absence will be a blow for both club and country, but the successful surgery offers encouragement as he begins the road to recovery.
