Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been urged not to panic following the appointment of former Attorney General, Martin Amidu as Special Prosecutor.
According to the Greater Accra Regional Organizer of the party, Anthony Nukpenu, he [Amidu] is just an “errand boy who has no power to jail anyone”.
His comment comes shortly after President Akufo-Addo on Thursday January 11, 2018 announced the appointment of Mr. Amidu as Special Prosecutor at the Flagstaff House.
President Akufo-Addo told the gathering that he could also, personally, vouch for the public spiritedness of Mr. Amidu.
Many have hailed the appointment noting that the self-styled citizen vigilante’s credibility as far as the position is concerned, is unquestionable.
Others in the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) are jubilating following the appointment since in their opinion corrupt officials in the erstwhile Mahama administration will face prosecution.

But on Adom News Thursday, Anthony Nukpenu described as laughable the assertions that majority of the NDC members will be prosecuted.
He explained that, the office of the Special Prosecutor is under the Attorney General thus Mr. Amidu will be an “errand boy to Madam Gloria Akuffo”.
“Martin Amidu cannot jail anyone in NDC; he can only invite people based on evidence so on one should panic” he added.
The NDC man noted that, the so-called citizen vigilante is not a member of the NDC in good standing since he [Amidu] has not paid his dues for the past 13 years”.
Anthony Nukpenu added the NDC does not owe President Akufo-Addo an appreciation for appointing Martin Amidu.
