A former presidential staffer and New Patriotic Party (NPP) communicator, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has criticised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of relying on public relations rather than addressing the real economic challenges facing Ghanaians.
Speaking in an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Aboagye said many Ghanaians are confused and frustrated, arguing that the government’s repeated claims that the dollar has fallen have not translated into relief for ordinary citizens.
He further alleged that some security agencies and teachers have not been paid, while utility tariffs have increased, worsening the plight of the masses.
“The country is facing numerous issues, and there seems to be a lack of clarity. Many people are confused and have expressed their concerns. Security agencies and teachers have not been paid, and electricity bills have risen. Whenever these issues are raised, the government’s response remains the same—they claim that the dollar has decreased in value. However, prices continue to rise.
“The goodwill the government once had is being stretched too far; they need to pause and conduct a thorough review of the situation to address these problems. They are managing the country through public relations tactics, but the reality experienced by the people is very different from what the government communicates.”
According to Mr. Aboagye, although the government points to improvements in macroeconomic figures, the benefits are not being felt by the majority of citizens. He claimed that only a small percentage of the population has gained from current policies, while the broader public continues to struggle.
He urged the government to conduct a proper review of the situation and focus on practical solutions to ease the burden on Ghanaians.
“It has become evident that there has been no improvement in the lives of ordinary Ghanaians. While macroeconomic indicators show improvement, the effects are not being felt by the majority. Only 10–15% of the population seems to have benefited from government policies. What about the masses? They are suffering at the expense of a privileged few,” he said.
