Man arrested in connection with series of murder and robbery targeting taxi drivers

-

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested another suspect believed to be connected to a series of robberies and killings involving taxi drivers in the Greater Accra Region, particularly around Odorkor.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old ex-convict Peter Akakpo, also known as Dompe, was apprehended on October 13, 2025, at Kasoa-Domeabra after several weeks of intelligence-led surveillance by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit (AARU).

His arrest comes in the wake of two separate murder cases involving taxi drivers, whose bodies were discovered at Sakaman Blue Lagoon on May 9 and June 15, 2025. These incidents prompted an extensive investigation by the CID’s special operations team.

An earlier suspect, Vincent Gbetorglo, was picked up on June 30, 2025, following a similar intelligence-driven operation. Police investigations later uncovered that Gbetorglo had been in contact with Akakpo, with phone records linking the latter to both deceased drivers.

In a statement signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo, Public Relations Officer of the CID, police confirmed that Akakpo was arrested from a room rented by Gbetorglo at Kasoa-Domeabra.

The suspect is currently in custody, assisting with investigations as the police continue efforts to recover the missing vehicles of the slain drivers.

The CID assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that further updates will be provided as new information emerges.
