Man arrested for brutal cutlass attack on brother-in-law at Akyem Afosu

A 25-year-old barber, identified as Williams Gboke, is battling for his life at the hospital after he was brutally attacked by his brother-in-law, a 45-year-old palm wine tapper, at Afosu Sikawoaboum in the Birim North District of the Eastern Region.

The suspect, known as Efo Kofi, allegedly inflicted multiple cutlass wounds on Williams during the violent assault on Monday, October 7, 2025.

Confirming the incident to Adom News, an eyewitness and sister of the victim, Larbi Ohenewaa Mercy, said she saw the suspect attacking her brother and quickly called for help.

“I saw my sister’s lover, Efo, cutting my brother with a cutlass. We rushed to rescue him and sent him to the hospital,” she recounted.

According to her, the suspect had long-standing issues with the family after his relationship with their sister ended due to what she described as his “strange and chaotic behaviour.”

“He has always blamed us for the breakup, and yesterday he attacked my brother from behind, cutting his neck, face, back, hands, and legs. He nearly killed him,” she added.

The Abirem District Police Command later arrested the suspect following the incident.

The victim’s family has appealed for justice, noting that Williams remains in critical condition as he continues to receive medical treatment.
