The National Chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has assured the chiefs and people of Wenchi in the Bono Region of major road infrastructure development beginning in 2026.
Mr Nketia gave the assurance during a mini durbar at Nkonsia, a community near Wenchi, on the first day of his two-day “thank you” tour of the Bono Region.
The tour is aimed at expressing the party’s gratitude to supporters following the 2024 general elections.
Addressing Nananom and residents, the NDC National Chairman said Wenchi had long been considered a stronghold of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) but failed to witness the level of development expected under its leadership.
According to him, residents have now come to appreciate the difference in development approaches between the NDC and the NPP.
He noted that the decision by the people of Wenchi to shift their support to the NDC would soon translate into tangible development outcomes, particularly in the area of road infrastructure.
He explained that several roads linking Wenchi to surrounding communities have been earmarked for major rehabilitation to boost economic activities and improve living conditions.
Mr Nketia stressed that improved road networks would enhance the movement of people and goods while opening up the municipality to increased investment and development.
He also highlighted achievements of the Mahama-led administration and expressed gratitude to the people of Wenchi for the massive support and votes given to the NDC in the 2024 general elections.
The assurance was warmly received by traditional leaders and residents at the durbar, who expressed optimism that the promised projects would bring lasting benefits to the municipality.
Meanwhile, Nana Damoah Koasane Adusi Poku Kafabaae IV appealed to the government to prioritise the construction of deplorable roads in the Wenchi Municipality.
He further called on President John Dramani Mahama to consider appointing a substantive minister from Wenchi when the need arises.
