The inaugural Kumasi City Marathon is set to officially kick off on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, marking the start of preparations for a landmark road race that promises to draw runners and sports enthusiasts from across Ghana.
The launch will be held at SG Mall in Kumasi at 2:00 pm, where organisers will reveal essential details, including race categories, course routes, and participation guidelines.
Organised by Nextwave Proevents, the marathon seeks to establish Kumasi as a premier hub for road racing and sports tourism.
This year’s edition carries the theme “Run the Heart of Ghana,” celebrating the city’s cultural heritage while promoting fitness, wellness, and community engagement through sport.
The main event is slated for Saturday, June 6, 2026, when professional athletes, recreational runners, and fitness enthusiasts will hit the streets of Kumasi for the historic first edition.
Organisers anticipate that the marathon will not only advance sports development but also stimulate tourism and drive economic activity in Ghana’s Ashanti regional capital.
