The District Chief Executive of Bongo in the Upper East Region, Joseph Abaa Akaseke, has passed away following a brief illness.
Mr. Akaseke reportedly died on Sunday evening, February 22, while receiving treatment at the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital. Details surrounding his death remain limited.
The Upper East Regional Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jonathan Abdallah Salifu, confirmed the news in a Facebook post.
His announcement came after regional and constituency executives, along with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assembly (MMDA) officials, visited the family to offer condolences.
News of his passing has deeply affected the district and beyond, leaving residents, party members, and colleagues in profound grief over what many are describing as an unexpected and heartbreaking loss.

Appointed in April 2025, Mr. Akaseke received overwhelming support from Assembly Members during his confirmation, securing 52 out of 54 valid votes—a result widely seen as a strong endorsement of his vision and leadership.
In his acceptance remarks, he pledged to promote inclusive and participatory governance aimed at ensuring Bongo received its fair share of national development support.
