President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed government’s commitment to completing abandoned and stalled public projects across the country, citing the ongoing four-storey central laboratory complex at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS) in Navrongo as a key example.
President Mahama inspected the project on Thursday, August 13, 2026, as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region.
He said taxpayers’ investments in stalled projects must not be left to waste, stressing the need to complete and put such facilities to productive use.
The central laboratory project, which commenced in 2016 but later stalled, is expected to be completed and handed over in 2027.
The facility is expected to provide modern infrastructure to support teaching, research, innovation and practical training at UTAS.
President Mahama also directed the Ministry of Roads and Highways to include UTAS’s request for about five kilometres of internal roads in its project inventory.
He described the request as achievable and said it should be considered as part of efforts to improve infrastructure on the university campus.
The President further reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education in Ghana.
He also expressed support for UTAS’s plans to establish a medical school, saying the initiative could help expand the country’s capacity to train more doctors.
