President John Dramani Mahama has called on the newly sworn-in Justices of the Court of Appeal to uphold integrity and resist rising cynicism towards Ghana’s judiciary.
Speaking at the swearing-in of 21 High Court Judges elevated to the appellate bench on Thursday, October 2, the President acknowledged growing public criticism of judicial rulings but described it as a sign of trust rather than a threat.
“Criticism of judgments is not the end of hope, it is the evidence of hope,” Mahama said.
“It shows that Ghanaians still believe in the courts, that justice still matters, and that verdicts have meaning in their lives.”
He, however, cautioned against allowing public debate to degenerate into cynicism, warning that such distrust could erode confidence in the courts.
Among those appointed was Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Agyeman Badu II, President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, alongside Justices Senyo Amedahe, Olivia Boeng Owusu, Douglas Seidu, Ali Baba Bature, Mariama Samo, Abena Adzin Doku, Mary Maame Akua Yanzu, Justin Dorgu, George Boadi, Ayitey Armah-Tetteh, Jennifer Anne Myers Ahmed, John Bosco Nabarese, Kwasi Anokye Gyimah, Richmond Osei Hwere, Apangano Achibonga, Charity Akosua Asem, Enyonam Adinyira, Shiela Minta, Bridget Kafui Antonio, and Franklina Gesila Adanu.
