President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to becoming a strategic investment destination and gateway to Africa, urging global investors and development partners to take advantage of the continent’s growing opportunities.

Speaking on the President’s behalf at the Africa Business Investment Summit (ABIS) 2026 in Washington, D.C., Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, said Ghana was ready to partner investors who believe in Africa’s economic potential.

The summit, held at MGM National Harbor, brought together government officials, investors, development finance institutions and business leaders to explore investment opportunities and strategies for sustainable economic growth across Africa.

According to President Mahama, Ghana’s economic transformation agenda is focused on strengthening macroeconomic stability, expanding productive capacity, attracting investment and creating jobs.

He said government’s agenda goes beyond economic recovery and places emphasis on industrialisation, value addition, productivity and inclusive growth.

Among the key initiatives highlighted were the 24-Hour Economy Programme and the Investment Opportunities Mapping Project, which are aimed at increasing production, unlocking investment opportunities and expanding economic activity across the country.

President Mahama also identified energy, technology, agriculture, mining, tourism, maritime development, infrastructure and manufacturing as key sectors open to investment.

He said the Feed Ghana Programme would make agriculture a major pillar of Ghana’s economic transformation by increasing food production, reducing import dependence, creating jobs and supplying industries with locally produced raw materials.

On industrialisation, the President highlighted plans to develop industrial parks and special economic zones, including the Greater Kumasi Industrial City and Special Economic Zone, Dawa Industrial Zone and Tema Integrated Industrial Park.

He also pointed to Ghana’s strategic advantage as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, describing the country as a gateway to a continental market of more than 1.3 billion people with a combined GDP exceeding US$3.5 trillion.

President Mahama said the AfCFTA offers significant opportunities for businesses by connecting African markets, expanding trade and creating new avenues for enterprise growth.

“Let history record that we did not only gather to speak about Africa’s future. We gathered to invest in it, and to build it,” Sampson Ahi said on behalf of the President.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who attended the summit, urged investors to recognise Africa’s vast potential while calling on African leaders to strengthen governance and create an environment conducive to sustainable investment.

He said good governance was not only a political responsibility but also an economic asset that builds investor confidence and supports development.

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, also called for investment partnerships that create jobs and empower Africa’s youth to build better futures on the continent.

He urged investors to support initiatives that would contribute meaningfully to Africa’s long-term development.

The summit ended with a strong call to the global investment community: “Invest in Ghana. Invest in Africa.”
